Just passing along this information:

Hello fellow pickleballers,

It is with great regret that I must make the very disappointing decision to cancel my two summer tournaments:

  • North Carolina Open Pickleball Championships (August 7-9)
  • North Carolina Beat the Heat (August 28-30)

I have tried to put the final decision off as long as possible, but unfortunately, the only option left open to me is:  CANCEL.  This decision is beyond my control, as NC is still operating under the Phase 2 guidelines.

“What is the new mass gathering limit?

In Phase 2, gatherings of more than 10 people in a single indoor space remains prohibited. In outdoor spaces, gatherings of more than 25 people are prohibited. These mass gathering limits include parades, fairs, festivals, auditoriums, stadiums, arenas, conference rooms and meeting halls.”

Because of this restriction, I have not been able to get an “all clear” from the venues.  I made plans to move one of the tournaments to an outdoor venue, but the guidelines still are too restrictive to make that happen.

I’m very sorry for any inconveniences that may have been caused by the late cancellation, but my hope has always been to somehow be able to have the tournaments.

I am in the process of securing the tournament dates for all four of my NC tournaments (Cupid’s Clash, Beat the Heat, Holiday Smash, and NC Open) for 2021.  Hopefully, the 2020 Holiday Smash can still happen this November and the Salisbury Challenge (indoor at the Salisbury YMCA) will still play on December 4-6.

Let’s bring this back bigger than ever as soon as we are able to.  We really miss our pickleball gatherings!

I am always open to suggestions or questions.  Please reach out.  I’d love to talk to you.
